El Retiro Park

Retiro Park is the biggest and most visited park in Madrid.

The park was originally built for King Phillip IV. Due to its patronage there are several beautiful buildings in the park. One of the most impressive ones is the crystal palace, which is made entirely out of glass.

Retiro Park in Madrid
The crystal palace opened its gates for public use in 1800. The word Retiro actually stands for retirement in Spanish.

During the spring and summer months the park is filled with Madrileños and tourists enjoying the grass fields and the smell of flowers.

Glass Palace Retiro Park Madrid In the middle of this big capital Retiro Park creates a centre of peace and quiet. When you are walking trough the park you tend to forget that you are in 3,5 million people capital.

The entrance to the park is free and it’s easy to get there; there are three metro stations around the park and they are all called Retiro, so it is really easy to get there and enjoy in the Retiro Park.

During your stay in Madrid, ask the tourist information about special activities in the park. There are several free concerts in the park from late may till early October. There are also several art galleries in the park which are worth visting. They are located inside the Crystal Palace, Palacio de Velázquez, and Casa de Vacas. The centre of the park is big pond where it’s possible to rent a little rowing boat for less than €5.

Retiro Park is a good attraction to spend a relaxing day in the capital of Spain without spending a lot of money.

Warner Park Madrid

Parque Warner Madrid is a theme park which is located in San Martín de la Vega, a town 27km. south from the capital. It was inaugurated in the year 2002 and always strived to be the most important theme park in Spain.

Parque Warner Madrid is divided in five thematic areas. Each area has his own characteristics and a high level of detail which makes every area different: the ambience, the buildings, the characters which walk down the streets… and the attractions. Adding them all up creates certain credibility; walking through Old West Territory actually gives you that western feeling. The different areas are:

  • Old West Territory
  • Super Heroes World
  • Hollywood Boulevard
  • Cartoon Village
  • Movie World Estudios
In Parque Warner Madrid the different areas have their own attractions, most time related to the theme. The main attractions have been spread throughout the different areas.

The most important attractions are:
  • Superman, la atracción de acero: it was the first attraction in Europe without “floorless”.
  • Batman: inverted roller coaster.
  • Coaster Express: wooden roller coaster.
  • Stunt Fall: the unique European GIB (Giant Inverted Boomerang) roller coaster.
  • La venganza del enigma: loom shuttle.
When visiting Madrid, the stadium tour of Santiago Bernabéu is recommended. For a great price you will be able to enter the world of a professional footballer. See the gigantic stadium, walk trough their trophy room, see the royal white Real Madridshirt and walk trough the player’s tunnel.
