| The main difference between the stations is their connection to other cities. Atocha is located in the south of Madrid and it connects the capital to the cities in the south. The most important connections to the south are: Seville, Málaga, Córdoba and Valencia.
Chamartin train station is located in the North of Madrid and connects the cities in the north and nearest countries: Salamanca, Barcelona, France, La Coruña, Portugal and Segovia.
Inside of Madrid it is not wise to travel by train, because the train is usually used to enter or leave the city. The Madrid transport system inside the city is focused on the subway and buses. But if you want to go outside the city the best solution is taking the Madrid train or the suburban bus.
